Audi presented the new Audi SQ5 at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The sportiest member of the Q5 model series embodies more than ever the emotional concept of the practical SUV with the latest technology. It's turbocharged, 3.0 TFSI offers powerful performance combined with further enhanced efficiency.

The 3.0 TFSI

The Audi SQ5 has a 2,995 cc, V6 TFSI engine with an output of 260 kW (354 hp). The turbocharged, aluminum engine delivers a constant 500 Nm (368.8 lb-ft) of torque from 1,370 to 4,500 rpm. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) is completed in 5.4 seconds; top speed is an electronically governed 250 km/h (155.3 mph). In the NEDC, the new Audi SQ5 3.0 TFSI consumes just 8.3 liters of fuel per 100 kilometer (28.3 US mpg) - a CO2 equivalent of 189 grams per kilometer (304.2 g/mi). Compared with its predecessor, this is a reduction of 13 grams per kilometer (20.9 g/mi).

New combustion process: higher efficiency

A new combustion process developed by Audi makes the 3.0 TFSI particularly efficient. It is based on the so-called "B cycle" process in combination with high-pressure injectors centrally located in the combustion chambers.

Audi presented another successful model: Sales for the second generation of the Audi Q5 begin at the start of 2017. The SUV with the four rings combines the sportiness of an Audi saloon with a multifaceted character and a highly flexible interior. Whether in its connectivity, efficiency or driver assistance systems - the new Audi Q5 once again sets standards in its segment.

"The first Audi Q5 was for many years the world's best-selling SUV in its class. It was no easy task to design its successor, but that is precisely why it is so very exciting," says Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management at AUDI AG. "With the new Q5 we are setting the bar a notch higher. Among the great innovations are the quattro drive system with ultra technology, highly efficient engines, the air suspension with damper control and a comprehensive line-up of infotainment and assistance systems."

The new SUV from Audi takes a sporty and taut stance on the street. A sculpturally flared Singleframe grille with a solid frame dominates its aerodynamically flat front end. It is available with headlights that are either in LED or high-resolution Matrix LED technology with dynamic turn lights.

Typically Audi: Reference to the quattro drive

A distinctively curved and strongly undercut shoulder line gives structure to the side view. The strongly emphasized wheel arches are a reference to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, and the low greenhouse tapers back down early. Just as at the front, horizontal lines at the rear convey an image of width and presence. The tail lights are also available with optional dynamic turn signals. The tailgate wraps around the C-pillars - a typical feature of the Q models from Audi. A diffuser insert integrates the exhaust tailpipes.

Audi extends its Q family with a compact SUV. The Audi Q2 is an urban-type vehicle for everyday driving and recreation, bundling a progressive design with a high level of functionality. Connectivity, infotainment and assistance systems are on level of full-size class.

"In the Audi Q2 we have developed a distinctively geometric form language with special design characteristics specific to this model. The car thus exhibits an independent character within the Q family," explains Audi Head of Design Marc Lichte.

Robust look: the exterior design

The result: a powerful SUV that is sharp and edgy. At the front, a strong image is created by the Singleframe grille in octagonal design that is positioned high as well as large air inlets. Especially eye-catching is the low roof that descends and merges into the C-pillars with color offset blades. This contrast accentuates the sportiness of the Audi Q2. The rear body terminates in a dynamic way with a long roof edge spoiler and a diffuser that has an underbody-protection look. In a side view, the high window line is especially eye-catching as are the concave flanks in the door area.

The latter emphasize the wheel housings and thereby the quattro character of the compact SUV. The vehicle measures 1.51 meters (5.0 ft) tall and 1.79 meters (5.9 ft) wide. The overhangs are short with a vehicle length of 4.19 meters (13.7 ft) and a wheelbase of 2.60 meters (8.5 ft), which means it will fit in any parking space.

The new Audi A5 Coupé will launch in Germany with five engines: two TFSI and three TDI units. Their power output has increased considerably and is now between 140 kW (190 hp) and 210 kW (286 hp). Compared with the previous model, they offer up to 17 percent more performance while consuming as much as 22 percent less fuel. All the engines combine high efficiency with sporty power development and smooth running - especially the two 3.0 TDI six-cylinder engines.

In 2015 the Audi R8 LMS won the 24 Hours Nürburgring on its debut. The GT3 car's victory marked the start of a successful year of motor racing for Audi Sport. The brand now celebrates the R8 LMS with the "selection 24h" special edition, a homage to its tally of 323 wins in national and international race assignments since 2009.

The "selection 24h", being built in a limited production run of 24, is based on the Audi R8 Coupé V10 plus. Its 5.2-liter V10 mid-engine develops 449 kW (610 hp) and accelerates the top model of the Audi R8 car line from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in a mere 3.2 seconds, before advancing to a top speed of 330 km/h (205.1 mph). That makes the Audi R8 Coupé V10 plus both the fastest and most powerful production Audi of all time. A newly developed quattro drive distributes its power fully variably between both sets of wheels.

The suspension, the aerodynamics configured to handle high downforces and the operating concept featuring the Audi virtual cockpit are all motorsport-inspired. That is because Audi developed the second generation of the R8 in parallel with the GT3 racing model R8 LMS. Close cooperation between race car engineers, motorsport specialists and developers has brought both models a significant boost in performance.

The dry weight of the Audi R8 Coupé V10 plus is 1,454 kilograms (3,205.5 lb); its body built using the multi-materials construction principle weighs a mere 200 kilograms (440.9 lb). The combination of aluminum and carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP) in the Audi Space Frame opens up entirely new dimensions with regard to weight, rigidity and crash behavior.

The technical package in the "selection 24h" special edition comprises dynamic steering, the adaptive damper control system Audi magnetic ride and Audi laser lighting. The tricolor paint finish consisting of Suzuka gray as the basic color, with mythos black and Misano red highlights, evokes the successful Audi R8 LMS.

Quality, design and technology - those are the key selling points for Audi full-size models. With the start of the new model year, the brand is further enhancing its models. On the exterior, changes to the front end of the cars accentuate horizontality: The Audi A6 and Audi A6 Avant feature bold contours that surround the air inlets in the new front apron, and struts in high-gloss black that divide the lateral ventilation grilles horizontally. The side sill and rear bumper are also more angular in shape. A new diffuser provides the finishing touch to the lower rear end.

With the optional S line exterior package, the A6 models display a new radiator grille with a corpus painted matt black. The slats are finished in gloss chrome. Striking chrome struts accentuate the side air inlets; versions with adaptive cruise control are also adorned with chrome rings.

Two new, bold paint colors - matador red and Gotland green - introduce fresh notes to the color range of the Audi A6 and Audi A7 car lines; Gotland green is also available for the S models. The color Java brown - previously exclusive to the Audi A6 allroad - is now also available for the Audi A6, A6 Avant and A7 Sportback. There are two new wheel designs available for the Sedan and Avant, and three for the A7 Sportback.

The new open-roof high-performance sports car opens another chapter in the Audi R8 success story. It all started in 2007 with the market introduction of the first-generation Coupé, followed by the Spyder in 2010. Sales of both versions combined reached nearly 27,000. They demonstrate the high-tech expertise of Audi and the brand's affinity with motorsport. The brand restates this with the second R8 generation - its engineers developed the new Audi R8 Le Mans, a GT3 racing car, in parallel with the production models. As a result, almost 50 percent of all the parts used on the R8 LMS are also to be found in the R8. The success of the new Coupé is confirmed by prestigious awards bestowed on it last year, such as the "Golden Steering Wheel" and the "Auto Trophy".

"Our new R8 line is the sporty vanguard of Audi," remarked Board Member for Development Dr.-Ing. Stefan Knirsch. "Following on from the Coupé, we are now bringing out the second generation of the R8 Spyder. The open high-performance sports car delivers thrillingly captivating performance and gives the driver an even more direct experience of the V10 naturally aspirated engine's unmistakable sound."

The successful model from Audi is now even more attractive: The Audi A3 approaches the starting line with new driver assistance systems and engines as well as newly designed headlights and taillights. Also new on board is the innovative operating and display concept, Audi virtual cockpit. The new A3 is available in a three-door version and as a Sportback, a sedan and a Cabriolet. The sporty Audi S3 version comes with numerous innovations and has even further enhanced its dynamic potential. The A3 series offers the most versatile line of drive systems in the compact segment with the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron and the Audi A3 Sportback g-tron.

Driver assistance systems from the Audi full-size category

With numerous driver assistance systems, the new Audi A3 raises the bar in the premium compact segment yet again. The further developed Audi active lane assist and Audi pre sense front, including predictive pedestrian protection, make town and country driving even safer.

New in the segment is the traffic jam assist, which works together with Audi adaptive cruise control (ACC) and its Stop&Go feature. The optional system keeps the car at a safe distance from the vehicle in front, and in combination with the S tronic, automatically sets the vehicle in motion again after a short stop. In sluggish traffic up to 65 km/h (40.4 mph), the traffic jam assist even briefly takes over the steering on well-paved roads. Another new feature for the A3 family is the optional Emergency Assist. This system initiates braking down to a safe stop if, despite warnings, no steering activity by the driver is detected. The new rear cross-traffic assist warns the driver about cross traffic when slowly backing out of a perpendicular parking space, for example.

Controls & displays, infotainment and Audi connect

The highlight in the interior of the new Audi A3 is the Audi virtual cockpit. This innovative operating concept is available for the first time in the compact class. The Audi virtual cockpit displays the most important driving-relevant information in high resolution on a 12.3-inch diagonal TFT screen. The driver can switch between two views by pressing the "View" button on the multifunction steering wheel. In classic mode, the instruments appear as large as the usual analog displays.

Its newly developed 4.0 TDI engine features a world first: An electric powered compressor gives the Audi SQ7 TDI outstanding off-the-line performance. Yet it consumes on average 7.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (31.8 US mpg).

"Following the launch of the successful SQ5, we are now also applying the concept of a diesel-engined S model to the Q7 model line. So equipped, the SQ7 TDI with a V8 TDI engine achieves the consumption figures of a six-cylinder. The new technology solution of the electric powered compressor in the SQ7 TDI is a world first in the competitive environment, with which Audi once again underscores its claim Vorsprung durch Technik," said Dr. Stefan Knirsch, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Technical Development.

Forced induction: Three chargers working together

The 4.0 TDI has been newly developed from the ground up. It combines best-in-class performance with low consumption and guarantees maximum dynamics. The V8 engine has a displacement of 3,956 cc. The two exhaust-gas turbochargers are activated selectively according to the concept of sequential charging, since exhaust gas only flows through one turbocharger at low and intermediate load. The second turbine is only activated at higher loads. An electric powered compressor (EPC) augments the work of the two turbochargers, particularly in the lower engine speed range, providing for extremely dynamic off-the-line performance.

With 320 kW (435 hp) and 900 Nm (663.8 lb‑ft) of torque between 1,000 and 3,250 revolutions per minute, the SUV sets new benchmarks in the segment. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 4.8 seconds; top speed is 250 km/h (155.3 mph) (governed). In the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), it consumes 7.4 liters per 100 kilometers (31.8 US mpg). This corresponds to CO2 emissions of 194 grams per kilometer (312.2 g/mi).
