Today, intelligent connectivity is already increasing the options available for customers to manage their personal mobility agenda and use digital services inside their vehicle. Drivers and passengers are already accustomed to remaining permanently connected with their digital life while out on the road. This expectation leads, among other things, to greater demands on the vehicle's display and control system. Interior design will be increasingly influenced by the desire to control a growing number of functions easily, safely and intuitively. The wealth of functions on offer is remarkable even now, ranging in current BMW models from state-of-the-art driver assistance systems and in-car entertainment programmes to the array of communications facilities that turn the car into a mobile office. And with the advances in autonomous driving anticipated for the future, the list is certain to grow longer still.

At CES 2017, BMW unveiled its BMW i Inside Future sculpture, which caters precisely to the individual requirements of a vehicle's driver and passengers in all sorts of ways, while still providing sufficient space to experience a journey together. The interior is conceived as a room with separate zones allowing the passengers to spend the journey as they please, fulfilling to-do lists and wish lists alike.

In March 2017, just a few weeks after the latest generation of the BMW 5 Series is launched, a plug-in hybrid variant will join the ranks of the world's most successful business sedan. The BMW 530e iPerformance is a sporty sedan that serves up the dynamic driving experience for which the brand is renowned combined with the possibility of electric driving with zero local emissions. Its fuel consumption of 1.9 l/100 km (148.7 mpg imp) equates to CO2 emissions of just 44 g/km. The BMW 530e iPerformance is the most innovative model in its class and offers the full wealth of BMW 5 Series driver assistance systems - in all modes, including eDrive.

These systems are complemented by all the available comfort-enhancing features and excellent long-distance driving credentials, including a boot that can hold ample luggage for trips away. As for its power source, trailblazing BMW eDrive technology teams up with a BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine to create an exceptionally economical and powerful plug-in-hybrid drive system which fits in perfectly with the dynamic, smooth and efficient character profile of the new BMW 5 Series. The iPerformance tag attached to all of BMW's plug-in hybrid models bears testimony to the transfer of know-how from BMW i to the core brand's cars. The BMW 530e iPerformance is the sixth member of a growing portfolio of iPerformance models that have proved a hit with customers.

Power delivery on a par with a high-displacement combustion engine

The BMW eDrive system's state-of-the-art electric motor has an output of 70 kW/95 hp and places maximum torque of 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) on tap, while the four-cylinder combustion engine with its 2.0-litre displacement generates 135 kW/184 hp and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. The combination of motor and engine keeps the CO2 emissions of the BMW 530e iPerformance very low at just 44 g/km. The overall system output of 185 kW/252 hp and combined peak torque of 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) propel the BMW 530e iPerformance from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.2 seconds and enable it to reach a top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph). The BMW 530e iPerformance has a range of up to 650 kilometres (404 miles) in real-world driving and is capable of covering distances of up to 50 kilometres (31 miles) purely on electric power at a maximum speed of 140 km/h (87 mph). The electric motor and combustion engine direct their power to the sedan's rear wheels via the standard eight-speed Steptronic transmission.

The BMW 6-Series offers attractive new additions to the range of optional equipment for spring 2017. The options available exclusively for the BMW 6-Series Coupé, the BMW 6-Series Convertible and the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupé add touches of striking style to both the exterior and interior, clearly expressing the sporty character of these three upper class models.

The range of body finishes is extended with the addition of the variant Sonic Speed Blue metallic, which is now available for the first time. In conjunction with the M sports package configured specifically for each model, the BMW 6-Series Coupé, the BMW 6-Series Convertible and the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupé can now also be fitted with the new 20-inch M light alloy wheels in bicolor finish and M specific double-spoke design, including mixed tyres with emergency running properties. Likewise optionally available in combination with the M sports package, the interior trim finishers in Carbon Fibre create a particularly inspiring sports car ambience in the cockpit. These were previously reserved solely for the three variants of the high-performance sports car BMW M6.

For 40 years now, a combination of dynamic performance and luxury has been closely associated with the model designation "6". The first generation of the BMW 6-Series Coupé saw its debut in 1976, causing a stir not only with its elegant lines and sporty driving properties but also featuring pioneering innovations. The two-door model was the first serial-production vehicle with a Check Control system. Its direct successor went on the market in 2003. And with the premiere of the BMW 6-Series Convertible a year later, it was possible to combine Sheer Driving Pleasure with the joys of open-top motoring in a luxurious sports car for the first time. The current model generation now offers three vehicle types for dynamic performance, elegance and exclusive appeal in the upper class.

The design of the new BMW 5-Series Sedan exudes athletic prowess, elegance and stylistic assurance. The new model therefore remains the quintessential sporting business sedan. "The new BMW 5-Series will make a mature, confidently stylish and dynamic impression at every opportunity. The formal and precise design combines presence, aesthetic appeal and functionality in equal measure," says Karim Habib, Head of Design BMW Automobiles. The exterior dimensions of the new car are only slightly larger than those of its predecessor. The new BMW 5-Series Sedan is 36 millimetres longer than the outgoing model (at 4,935 millimetres), six millimetres wider (1,868 millimetres) and two millimetres taller (1,466 millimetres). Its wheelbase measures 2,975 millimetres (+7 millimetres).

The front end: a more striking face, LED headlights as standard

The familiar BMW kidney grille, flanked by twin circular headlights, lends the front of the new BMW 5-Series a more eye-catching appearance. The glass headlight covers now connect seamlessly with the kidney grille, emphasising the car's width.

The standard LED headlights already make the BMW 5-Series a captivating prospect, its concentrated gaze locked onto the road. Adaptive LED Headlights alter the light graphic and can be specified as an option with BMW Selective Beam anti-dazzle high beam with a range of up to 500 metres. The LED tubes of the daytime driving lights are hexagonal and extend up to the kidney grille element, creating a stylistic connection which accentuates the wide, low-to-the-road appearance of the front end.

This makes BBA's product range in the compact class even more comprehensive with premium entry-level cars covering segments of the Active Tourer, Sports Activity Vehicle, and Sports Sedan, attracting new customer groups to become premium car owners. The premium compact car segment is the fastest growing segment worldwide and in China.

The BMW 1-Series Sedan is the most sporty and emotional sedan in segment. It is an exclusive model tailored and aligned to the needs of Chinese customers, solely produced and specifically sold in China. The development and testing of the new car was taken place in the BMW headquarters with the involvement of Chinese engineers.

The new car also performed intensive road tests in respect to different circumstances of road conditions and climate situations on different terrains in China. With the BMW 1-Series Sedan, BMW engineers have made a lot of specific fine-tuning and improvements according to the Chinese customers' habits and vehicle-use environment.

Ease of entry, a slightly raised seating position with outstanding all-round visibility and a generous feeling of space play an equally critical role in the decision to buy as the car's sophisticated appearance.

The BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo offers more space in the rear compartment, in particular. Here, customers will be greeted by three full-size seats and - thanks to a longer wheelbase - the legroom of a luxury sedan. And then there is the boot behind the large, electrically-operated tailgate (fitted as standard), whose capacity and variability even outstrip those of the BMW 3-Series Touring.

With the launch of the first generation of the BMW M3 in 1986, the BMW M GmbH, at that time operating under the name BMW Motorsport GmbH, revolutionized the sporty mid-range segment. First and foremost, the BMW 2002 Hommage celebrates the extraordinary feats of engineering behind the BMW 2002 turbo - and re-imagines them as a design study for our times.

"Exactly 50 years ago, the 02 range kick-started an era of success for BMW. This compact coupe is one of the vehicles which made the brand what it is today," explains Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. "The 2002 sat at the top of the range and was the first series-produced car anywhere in Europe to come with turbo technology. That set the seal on the coupe as a genuine sports car. At the same time, the 2002 turbo was at the technological vanguard of engine development at BMW. The BMW 2002 Hommage is our way of raising a glass to all these achievements."

A confident statement of unadulterated driving joy

The sporting silhouette of the BMW 2002 Hommage lies low against the road. Its compact proportions, complete with a long wheelbase, short overhangs, and prominent "shark nose", promise a driving experience that thrills with irresistible dynamics and agility. Aerodynamic details like the large spoilers at the front and rear team up with the profusion of air intakes to optimise airflow around the car and maximise downforce in every driving situation.

Premium carmaker BMW unveiled a new generation of its highly successful BMW X1, which has chalked up global sales exceeding the 800,000 mark. In China, the first generation was sold up to 200,000 times, including approx. 140,000 locally produced cars in BMW Brilliance's plant Tiexi. The long-wheelbase version of the new BMW X1 (fuel consumption combined: 7.3 - 6.1 l/100 km [38.7 - 46.3 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 173 - 146 g/km) is being launched in China with a choice of three power options. The BMW X1 sDrive18Li is powered by a three-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 100 kW/136 hp. The BMW X1 sDrive20Li and BMW X1 xDrive20Li models use a 141 kW/192 hp four-cylinder petrol engine, with a further four-cylinder unit generating a peak output of 170 kW/231 hp in the BMW X1 xDrive25Li.

Powerful and authoritative

The new BMW M760Li xDrive gives a debut to the new M Performance TwinPower Turbo 12-cylinder petrol engine. Concealed under a cover bearing "M Performance" lettering, the 6.6-litre V12 develops output of 441 kW/600 hp at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) at 1,500 rpm (fuel consumption combined: 12.6 l/100 km [22.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 294 g/km). The high-performance unit with leading-edge M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology accelerates the BMW M760Li xDrive from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.9 seconds on the way to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). If the optional M Driver's Package is specified, the speed limiter doesn't cut in until 305 km/h (189 mph). Power transfer is via the state-of-the-art eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission as standard. 

The M Performance-specific tuning of the shift programs, delivering sportier gear changes and more instantaneous downshifts throughout the rev range, has been specially adapted to the characteristics of the V12 engine. With its optimal internal efficiency and a gear-change strategy assisted by navigation data, the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission contributes to the authoritative driving experience and works seamlessly with the standard Auto Start Stop function.

A lap time of 7.28 minutes around the legendary Nürburgring- Nordschleife, the world's most exacting race circuit, is a clear statement of this special-edition model's exceptional abilities. At the same time, the sharpest BMW M4 of all - like its BMW M stablemates - can also hold its own on public roads. BMW M GmbH is launching the BMW M4 GTS in a special edition limited to 700 units to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the BMW M3, which has been in production since 1986. In so doing, it is highlighting the innovative flair of the BMW M engineers in developing trailblazing M technologies on the powertrain, chassis and lightweight construction front. The first highperformance special edition in the M3/M4 model range will also be available for the first time in the important North American market.

Performance boost courtesy of innovative water injection

At the heart of each and every BMW M model is its engine. The BMW M4 GTS uses the multi-award-winning six-cylinder in-line turbo engine from the BMW M3/M4, but adds innovative water injection technology to give the 3.0-litre unit a substantial power boost. The water injection system raises the engine's output significantly - to 368 kW/500 hp - and increases torque to 600 Nm (442 lb-ft), yet still keeps fuel economy and CO2 emissions at the level of the BMW M4 Coupe (8.3 litres per 100 km [34 mpg imp], 194 g/km). This makes the BMW M4 GTS the most agile, radical and dynamically potent model in the range. It races from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 3.8 seconds and hits a limited top speed of 305 km/h (189.5 mph).

In the BMW Vision Next 100, the driver will remain firmly in the focus, with constant connectivity, digital intelligence and state-of-the-art technologies available for support. But that's not all: the BMW Vision Next 100 will turn the driver into the Ultimate Driver. So even though the world may well be changing, Sheer Driving Pleasure is here to stay - and will be more intense than ever before.

In designing the BMW Vision Next 100, the starting point was the interior. In the years ahead, the driver's wellbeing will become increasingly important, and rather than merely feeling they are in a machine that drives itself, they should sense that they are sitting in one that was specifically designed for them. This idea gave rise to an architecture in which the cab seems particularly spacious compared with the overall size of the vehicle while retaining the typical exterior lines of a BMW. Despite its domed interior, the BMW Vision Next 100 retains the instantly recognisable athletic silhouette of a BMW saloon.

The design of the interior permits various modes of operation: Boost mode, in which the driver is at the controls, and Ease mode, in which the driver can sit back and let the vehicle take over. In Ease, the vehicle becomes a place of retreat with plenty of space, agreeable lighting and a comfortable atmosphere. In Boost, the driver takes over and benefits from the subtle and intuitive support offered by the vehicle. All the time, the vehicle is learning more and more about the person at the wheel, thanks to its sensory and digital intelligence, which the BMW Group calls the Companion. The Companion progressively learns to offer the right kind of support to transform the driver into the Ultimate Driver.
