The all-new 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan unveiled at the 2017 North American International Auto Show kicks off a big year for the Volkswagen brand in America. Engineered specifically to meet the needs of American customers, the all-new Tiguan builds on the current vehicle's fun to drive character and adds a more sophisticated and spacious interior, flexible seating and high-tech infotainment and driver assistance features.

"The new Tiguan demonstrates how we plan to give American customers the usability and versatility they demand without sacrificing style or Volkswagen's trademark driving dynamics," said Hinrich J. Woebcken, CEO of the North American Region, Volkswagen. "Every detail of the Tiguan has been thoughtfully engineered for our U.S. customers to maximize space and convenience, while retaining its performance, agility, and value. We plan to price Tiguan very competitively with other compact SUVs. With the brand-new Tiguan and the all-new Atlas, 2017 is the year of #SUVW."

As with the Atlas, the Tiguan is based on Volkswagen's Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) architecture. Compared with the current model, the new Tiguan has far more interior space; at 185.2 inches long, the 2018 model is a stunning 10.7 inches longer than the current version and has up to 57 percent more cargo capacity. The 109.9-inch wheelbase-4.4 inches longer than the new Tiguan sold in Europe-provides both sliding second-row seats and an optional third row.

Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced that it will offer the R-Line package on the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas. The new trim package augments the Chattanooga-built SUV's sportiness with exterior and interior design elements that give it an even more dynamic appearance.

The Volkswagen Atlas R-Line will be introduced at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The R-Line package enhances the robust list of equipment in the Atlas SE and SEL trims-offering a full suite of connected vehicle services and driver assistance features-with performance-inspired treatments.

The exterior styling details include 20-inch aluminum-alloy twin-spoke wheels; R-Line badging; unique front and rear bumpers that incorporate stylish air intakes at the front and a diffusor in glossy black paint at the rear; and side skirts.

Inside, the VW Atlas R-Line welcomes drivers with the R-Line logo on the start screen of Volkswagen's Modular Infotainment Platform (MIB II). Other interior features include an R-Line steering wheel clip and stainless-steel sport pedal covers.

Volkswagen is digitalising the most successful model in the Group's history - the Volkswagen Golf - with a major update. The main focus of the 2017 model year is - alongside new engines, keener design and new assistance systems - a completely new generation of infotainment systems. As a world first in the compact class, the top-of-the-range "Discover Pro" system can be operated by gesture control. With its 9.2-inch screen it forms a conceptual and visual entity with the Active Info Display, which is also new to the Golf. In parallel to this, the range of online services and apps has also been enlarged. The update to the Golf, of which over 33 million have been sold to date, also reflects a new standard for assistance systems in the compact class: technologies such as City Emergency Braking with new Pedestrian Monitoring function, the new Traffic Jam Assist (partially automated driving at speeds of up to 60 km/h) and Emergency Assist, which is also new in this segment, significantly improve safety.

New TSI engines and a new 7-speed DSG

The progressive digitalisation is accompanied by the enhanced EA211 TSI engine family. The new Golf initially sees the debut of the new turbocharged petrol engine, the "1.5 TSI Evo" - a 110 kW/150 PS four-cylinder turbo with Active Cylinder Management (ACT). This will be followed by a BlueMotion version producing 96 kW/130 PS. Volkswagen has also boosted the performance of the Golf GTI, the new version of which will produce 169 kW/230 PS and 180 kW/245 PS (GTI Performance) and a new 7-speed DSG (dual clutch gearbox) will gradually replace the 6-speed DSG as a high-efficiency gearbox for the Golf.

World premiere of the Volkswagen Atlas in California! The new seven-seater SUV for the US market was unveiled on the Santa Monica Pier at the end of historic Route 66. The VW Atlas launches a new chapter in the company's American history. The new model will be built in Chattanooga (Tennessee) for the North American market and offers innovative technology and spaciousness. In addition, the new Atlas thrills with hallmark Volkswagen driving dynamics and attention to detail.

"This is the biggest and boldest Volkswagen we have ever built in the United States, delivering the distinctive design and craftsmanship we're known for, now with room for seven," said Hinrich J. Woebcken, Volkswagen CEO of North America Region.

The Volkswagen Atlas opens up an important segment for the brand: midsize SUVs, as the Americans call them, already formed a tenth of all new registrations in the USA in 2015. For the first time, Volkswagen's Atlas now offers a model in this high-volume class in the category between the Tiguan and the Touareg that is fully tailored to American needs.

Building on the modular transverse matrix (MQB) from Volkswagen, the Atlas is born with the latest Volkswagen design DNA. Classic proportions and clean lines that create a sense of timelessness and precision. Up front, standard LED headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights combine for a unique visual signature, with optional LED taillights to complete the look.

Volkswagen freshened up its range for the Beetle and Beetle Cabriolet and is now offering a bright bouquet of new models: from the classic production model with many new options for individualisation to the special model Denim and the Beetle Exclusive - there is a real treat in store for Beetle lovers.

A lifestyle story with tradition moves on. The Beetle, one of the most emotive sides of the Volkswagen brand, scores immediately with a number of new features. Gleaming paint finish options for the Beetle include "Bottle Green Metallic" and "White Silver Metallic". 

The bumpers (in the Basic & Design line) have also been redesigned and are now flatter and hence sportier. The R-Line equipment line (formerly Beetle Sport) is also fitted with further modified bumpers. 

An additional ventilation opening above the bumper indicates added dynamics. Other genuine highlights are the tinted LED rear lights and the 17-inch "Philadelphia" wheels as well as the 18-inch "Ravenna Adamantium" wheels, which are available as order options for the Design Line and R-Line.

Brighter instrument panel lighting, a new dial and dashpad styling for the Design Line and R-Line bring an added glow to the interior of the cult Volkswagen model. Further individualisation options comprise three new upholstery materials and contemporary style packages that introduce even more colour to the interior.

The Volkswagen Amarok premium B segment pick-up is powered in future by a latest generation V6 engine. In the interior the off-roader also offers customers lots of new features. These include an attractive cockpit, including a colour multi-function display for the Aventura launch model and state-of-the-art radio/navigation systems. For the driver and front-seat passenger, the Amarok also provides 14-way adjustable ergoComfort seats, which have already won awards for their back-friendliness.

Superior and robust: with its charisma and precision, the new VW Amarok will also thrill traditional SUV customers. At home both on and off the road, this pick-up achieves 550 Newton metres of torque and 165 kW / 224 PS at his highest power output level. It can reach a top speed of 193 kilometres per hour and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.

The pick-up is an attractive alternative thanks to its high seat position, good all-round visibility and high-quality interior. This is how elegant and comfortable driving both on and off made-up roads can be. And, despite its impressive size, getting into the Volkswagen Amarok is easy. Doors that swing open wide and - depending on the design variant - grab handles on the A and B-pillars help you climb into the cab.

One of the highlights of the new Amarok's interior are the new electrically adjustable ergoComfort seats for the driver and front-seat passenger, which provide plenty of head and legroom. This is, above all, thanks to the height-adjustable front seats, which can also be moved a long way back. They feature sporty contoured side bolsters that have been optimised to provide maximum comfort and top ergonomic characteristics. 

The optional electric 14-way driver and front passenger seats can be individually adjusted to suit personal body size. The seat height and longitudinal position can be adjusted at the push of a button, the degree and width of lumbar support can be changed and the backrest and seat cushion angle set. The seat depth can also be adjusted manually. The ergoComfort seats for the driver and front-seat passenger in the Volkswagen Amarok have been awarded the 'AGR' seal of approval by the Healthy Back Campaign (Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V.). With nappa leather seat covers, contrasting Ceramique stitching and additional seat heating, the Amarok caters for discerning customers.

12 trainees from Volkswagen and Sitech Sitztechnik presented their 400 PS (295 kW) VW Golf GTI Heartbeat in Austria at the international meeting of GTI fans. Fantastic sound, a contrasting color scheme, a honeycomb design and heartbeat symbols as well as a sound system with 1,360 watts from seven speakers make it quite clear: the interior and exterior design of the Volkswagen Golf GTI Heartbeat presented by the budding carmakers is inspired by the emotion of the GTI and the 40th anniversary of the Golf GTI. The unique GTI based on a standard Golf GTI Performance was created in slightly less than nine months on the basis of ideas developed by apprentices aged between 20 and 26 training in five different vocations.

Exterior

The two-door sports Golf is painted in reflex silver metallic with the roof and front end covered in a contrasting dark grey foil. GTI honeycombs in bright tornado red with contrasting dark and light grey provide further design accents on the bonnet, the closed roof and on the wings, marking the transition from dark to light. In addition, an individual high-gloss body kit and 20-inch wheels featuring wide tires on BBS aluminum rims with exclusive paintwork accentuate the car's sporting presentation.

Interior

The front of the passenger compartment is dominated by two folding bucket seats from the VW Golf GTI Clubsport S - decorated by a crystal grey embroidered "40" emblem on the headrest and honeycomb perforations with a red background on the back rests. These are repeated on the door insets. Heartbeat symbols on continuous lines decorate the strips above the door trims and the trim strip below the glove compartment. Instead of rear seats and luggage space, the rear end of the car features a high-end sound system with 1,360 watts from seven speakers and a special HIFI system with LED lighting and engraved glass covers.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S is the most powerful ever version of the Golf GTI and was built to celebrate 40 years of the iconic hot hatchback. With German racing driver Benny Leuchter (28) at the wheel, the car has just smashed the existing lap record for front-wheel-drive production cars on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with a time of 7 minutes, 49.21 seconds.

This exclusive new vehicle, based on the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport, makes its world premiere at the 2016 GTI event at Lake Wörthersee. The hard performance numbers of this new GTI are truly impressive: a power output of 228 kW/310 PS; 280 pound-feet of torque between 1,700 and 5.300 rpm; 0 to 62 mph acceleration in 5.8 seconds; a top speed of 162 mph; and an unladen weight (including the driver and luggage) that has been reduced to 2,998 pounds. But the raw figures don't tell the whole story, as the record lap time around the Nordschleife demonstrates how fast this car actually is.

The VW Golf GTI Clubsport S has an exclusive setting for the most demanding racetrack in the world, which can be accessed using the driving profile selector. This is possible because the car is fitted as standard with the individually configurable Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) and a driving profile selector. In the 'Individual' driving profile, the engineers have developed a setting that is fine-tuned to suit the unique conditions of the Nürburgring. Over and above that, the Comfort, Normal and Race settings are also available. The driver can still adjust the settings in the Individual profile, as usual, and can revert to the Nürburgring setting by resetting the Individual profile on the touchscreen menu. This unique configuration switches the Sound, Engine and Steering parameters in the Race profile as well as DCC to Comfort. However, in this instance an entirely different group of settings is hidden behind this option, instead of the normal Race and Comfort settings.

The production run will be limited to 400 cars worldwide, 100 of which will be delivered to customers in Germany. Colors will be limited to those of the original GTI: "Tornado Red", "Pure White" and "Deep Black Pearl Effect", with the roof painted black. The Clubsport S is based on the two-door model with a manual transmission, in order to keep the weight as low as possible.

Volkswagen debuted the T-Prime Concept GTE in a world premiere at Auto China 2016 in Beijing. The concept car previews the future Volkswagen SUV. The T-Prime Concept GTE is a full-size sport utility vehicle with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive. Volkswagen's new Curved Interaction Area is a completely new digital display and control concept. The innovative curved infotainment display merges with the interactive displays and controls, resulting in a new human-machine interface (HMI) that is intuitive, precise, and fun-to-use. This SUV show car combines the best of many automotive worlds: the comfort and spaciousness of a saloon, the superior traction of an off-road vehicle, the agility of a sport sedan and—thanks to innovative drive technologies—the efficiency of a compact car.

In the future, Volkswagen wants to offer an exciting SUV in every relevant market segment. The product campaign starts this Spring with the global market launch of the new Tiguan which will also be offered with an extended wheelbase in certain markets. Following in car classes above it are a new mid-size SUV (for the USA and China), the successful Touareg and a vehicle in the style of the T-Prime Concept GTE. Beneath the Tiguan, two new SUV model series will make their debut simultaneously: in the Golf class, there will be an SUV inspired by the T-Roc concept, and the T-Cross Breeze that was presented in Geneva shows the direction that will be taken in the Polo class (SUV).

SUVs are booming worldwide, and this is especially true in the segment of the large C-SUVs to which the T-Prime Concept GTE belongs. Forecasts for China predict 18 percent growth between 2017 and 2023; in Europe and Russia growth might even reach 26 percent. Around the globe, annual volume of the exclusive SUVs will reach the milestone of two million unit sales around 2020. With the new T-Prime Concept GTE, Volkswagen is now responding to this trend by introducing one of the most advanced cars in the world.

The T-Prime Concept GTE was created under the leadership of Dr. Frank Welsch, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development Volkswagen Brand, and Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design at Volkswagen. "Our team has created a charismatic and sporty all-round vehicle with this SUV, which appeals with its impressive sense of presence and confident poise," says Klaus Bischoff.

The smallest Volkswagen is becoming yet more colourful and sharper still. In late summer of 2016 the second series of the Volkswagen up! will be launched in Europe - with newly designed body panels, new colours, new wheels, new individualisation options, new equipment, a completely redesigned interior, a new infotainment system and an outstanding new engine that offers a significant boost in performance and torque. Volkswagen presents the new version of the up! to the public for the first time at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The up! has been one of Europe's most successful small cars for five years. In countries such as Germany and the Netherlands it is the number 1 in its segment. However, the VW up! has also enjoyed great success outside Europe, with strong performance in markets such as Brazil, Japan and South Africa.

New design and interior elements

Every version of the VW up! presented at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show will come with new headlights (with LED daytime running lights as standard), new bumpers, a prominent rear diffuser, newly designed tail lights, new exterior mirror housings with integrated indicator lights, new colours and décors for the dashpad (dashboard styling panel) as well as new seat designs. Just like the larger Volkswagens, the latest up! is now also available with the "Light and Sight" package ("Coming home" and "Leaving home" functions as well as rain sensors). Fog lamps will now also feature cornering lights. Volkswagen is also offering the up! with a multi-function steering wheel and Pure Air Climatronic (automatic air conditioning) for the first time. Pure Air includes an air quality sensor with an active biogenic filter that keeps the atmosphere in the cabin at a consistently high level and prevents pollutants, fungal spores or allergens from entering via the system.

New turbo engine

The outstanding new 1.0 TSI engine available in the new Volkswagen up! offers an efficient and engaging drive. This turbocharged direct petrol injection (TSI) delivers a powerful 66 kW/90 PS. The maximum torque of 160 Nm is available from 1,500 rpm. The three-cylinder engine is the first turbo for the up! and the most powerful motor available in the model to date. It delivers truly dynamic performance with a top speed of 185 km/h, and takes just 10 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h. This VW up! even strives to match the driving performance of the first Golf GTI. Its dynamism is paired with high efficiency: 4.4 l/100 km (equating to 102 g/km CO2) mean that the up! 1.0 TSI can cover up to 800 km on a single tank of fuel. The sporting nature of the most powerful new up! is emphasised by the visible exhaust pipe.

Volkswagen is presenting the newly developed VW Tiguan at the 2015 IAA. In this case, "new" means completely new - revolution instead of evolution. That is because the second generation Tiguan is the first Volkswagen Group SUV whose design is based on the MQB platform, which is future oriented in all of its aspects.

"XL" Tiguan with long wheelbase

For Volkswagen, the new Tiguan marks the beginning of an SUV product offensive. In upcoming years, the brand will be launching other innovative SUVs that are precisely tailored to specific markets in a wide variety of segments worldwide. Volkswagen will be extending the range of SUV vehicles it offers, especially in the USA. Forecasts indicate that the SUV share will also increase significantly in China. 

Additional SUV growth will also occur in Europe. Unlike in Europe, car drivers in the USA and China prefer versions with a longer wheelbase. That is why the new Tiguan was systematically developed for two different wheelbases from the start. The "long" Tiguan will be introduced to specific markets in spring 2017.

All-round vehicle - new Tiguan is "The SUV"

The MQB improves all aspects of the Tiguan. The body proportions of the latest Volkswagen SUV are notably sporty, the design shows charisma in all respects, and the vehicle's weight was reduced by over 50 kilograms compared to the previous model with Euro-5 engines. A gigantic leap forward has been made in terms of the vehicle's interior space and boot space. For instance, when the new Tiguan is loaded up to the rear seat bench, it offers 615 litres of boot space; when the rear seat backrests are folded, this results in a cargo capacity of 1,655 litres, which represents an increase of 145 litres. Meanwhile, the engines are showing efficiency gains. A broad range of eight engines is offered; their power outputs range from 85 kW / 115 PS to 176 kW / 240 PS.

The all-new Volkswagen Phideon luxury saloon makes its global debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. This innovative and luxurious four-door car is positioned above the Passat and the Magotan, which is available in China, and thus in the premium segment.

The elegant new five-metre saloon will be launched on the Chinese market in the third quarter of 2016. With the debut of the VW Phideon, which was developed and designed in Germany, Volkswagen is adding a crucial pillar to its model range.

When designing this car, Volkswagen made use of the technical expertise of its Chinese partner, SAIC Volkswagen. Particularly its extensive experience when it comes to the wishes and requirements of customers went into the creation of this premium saloon. SAIC Volkswagen will also manufacture the new model.

The Phideon also sees the debut of the new "face" of Volkswagen's luxury saloons. Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design Volkswagen Brand: "The new Phideon, with its equally powerful and charismatic front end, its flowing and yet precisely drawn lines and the exceedingly dynamic proportions, exudes highest presence and superiority, while the Phideon's progressive design corresponds to the high level of its technical innovations.

Thus this avant-garde model, designed in Europe for our style-conscious Chinese customers, was born." Volkswagen's design team is proud of the fact that it was possible to derive the Phideon almost directly from the breath-taking C Coupé GTE concept car, which was presented at Auto Shanghai in 2015, with only minor changes. From a technical perspective, the Phideon is the first Volkswagen to be based on the Modular Longitudinal Matrix (MLB). Its name - Phideon - is a construct standing for elegance and reliability, and phonetically and symbolically evokes Fides, the Roman goddess of fidelity.

The new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR has the seal of quality in its name: 40 years after the launch of the first Golf GTI, the customer racing version also possesses the acronym that, since 1976, has been synonymous with the Wolfsburg-based car maker's sporting character, powerful engines and maximum performance. Since it was first unveiled in July 2015, the Golf has been hugely popular on the racetracks of this world: all the customer racing models for the 2016 season had already been snapped up by mid-January 2016. The teams can field the 20 cars, which were developed by Volkswagen Motorsport, in up to 16 national and international TCR touring car championships. The cars for the international TCR championship in Abrera/Barcelona (E) are to be handed over to the customer racing teams from 11th March, 2016. An initial roll-out with the opposition is planned for the test drives at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia (E) from 14th March, 2016.

Dynamic appearance: Production-based Golf GTI TCR embodies racing genes

The acronym GTI stands for Gran Turismo Injection and is more than just a seal of quality - it is a trademark and an identity. Even to look at, the Golf makes no secret of its motor racing genes: 18-inch racing rims, a chassis that is roughly 40 centimetres wider than the production Golf, and a striking rear wing also guarantee optimal handling. An aerodynamic front splitter and carbon rear wing are among the modifications for the racetrack. Among the features that ensure maximum safety for the driver are a racing seat with head protectors, racing safety cage, and an FIA-approved safety tank.
